Spokane County Combined Communication Center |
As of January 1998 Spokane County started using what they call a Combined Communications Center. This was the culmination of several years of work by the fire districts of Spokane County to improve Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Fire Communications in the county. There were four main dispatch centers in the county. City Fire would dispatch for the City of Spokane; Fire 9 would dispatch for District 9, 4, 5, 13 and Stevens County 1; Fire 8 would dispatch for District 8 and 3; Valley Fire would dispatch for District 1. They have all merged into one center that is at the location of City Fire Dispatch in Riverfront Park. All dispatchers form the outlying dispatch centers became employees of the City of Spokane. Along with one central dispatch location was the method in how everyone is dispatched. The familiar tone/voice paging is giving way to digital paging. The digital pagers have all the information that personnel need to respond on a call. This is especially helpful for volunteer services. There have been a few frequency changes in name only.
